EDSIGCON/CONISAR Conferences Chair

As the 2017 Conference Chair, it is my honor to welcome you to the EDSIG Conference on Information Systems and Computing Education (EDSIGCON) and the Conference on Information Systems Applied Research (CONISAR) in Austin, Texas. Since the early 1980's, AITP-EDSIG members have helped to advance education and applied research in Information Systems and Computing by helping to support conferences and journals. These two conferences act as pathways to the Information Systems Education Journal (ISEDJ) and Journal of Information Systems Applied Research (JISAR) as well as the Journal of Information Systems Education (JISE).

This marks the 3rd year that EDSIG has organized its joint conferences with ISCAP (Information Systems & Computing Academic Professionals, Inc.). And, this is the first year that we have run the conference since CompTIA’s official acquisition of AITP. We are grateful for CompTIA’s support to AITP-EDSIG community and we look forward to working with a world-class parent organization.

This year we are fortunate to have support from Mendix, NetApp, IBM, Dell EMC, MyEducator, Pega Systems, Prospect Press, RedHat and CompTIA. Without corporate and industry sponsors, running a quality conference would not be possible. I encourage participants to visit our sponsors during the session breaks to learn about the ways different products and services can improve our teaching.

The 2017 conference would not be possible without the help of a talented group of volunteers that include Peter Wu, Muhammed Miah, Anthony Serapiglia, Rachida Parks, Jeff Babb, Scott Hunsinger, Les Waguespack, Wendy Ceccucci, Amy Connolly, Bruce White, Jeff Cumming, Jason Sharp, Karen Paullet, Lionel Mew and David Gomillion. We owe special gratitude to Li-Jen Lester, Neelima Bhatnagar, and Biswadip Ghosh, who as paper chairs helped coordinate the review process of over 100 submitted works. Finally, this conference would not be possible without the tireless effort of our meeting planner and publisher, Tom Janicki.

The EDSIG Conference and CONISAR draw educators and professionals together to share ideas, innovations and strategies including pedagogy, curricula, assessment, and classroom/laboratory/distance education as well as applied research in the IS/CS/IT industry. Through a peer-review process, we have all helped to improve the papers, case studies, works-in-progress, panel presentations and workshops that comprise this year's outstanding conference program. As always, I wish to express my personal gratitude to those who have worked tirelessly to develop, submit, and revise the scholarly work that have made this conference and the ones before it so valuable to educators and academic professionals.
